What is Showmehow?
Showmehow is a website that aims to make sex better and more enjoyable for young adults. At Showmehow we hope to provide inspiration for young adults in the area of sex, and to offer them informative, no-nonsense video material in an open and balanced way, making Showmehow the only reliable, high quality visual platform covering all aspects of sex for young adults. Everything from getting to know your own body and "the first time", right through to fingering and anal sex.
Who is Showmehow for?
Showmehow is aimed at young heterosexual and homosexual adults from age 18 upwards. The website should be useful for young adults who are becoming sexually active for the first time, as well as those who are more experienced but still have questions or would like to be better informed. Of course the site may also be interesting to older adults, it's not only young adults who would like information about making sex better and more enjoyable.
Why was Showmehow created?
Research has demonstrated a need among young adults for information about how to make sex better and more enjoyable. Up to now the main emphasis has been on the negative aspects of sex, like STDs, HIV and unwanted pregnancy. Also the information available often doesn't meet the needs of young adults. What they want is practical information, but they don't want to be lectured at. So Showmehow uses the kind of language and the type of media that young adults are familiar with from other aspects of their lives.
How does the Showmehow website work?
The website consists of 19 courses about enjoyable sex, where you can see exactly how to do it. Courses can be purchased individually, and we have also put together a package for women and a package for men, each including all the courses that will be of special interest to the different genders. Each package consists of 14 courses, and it is more economical to buy them together rather than individually. Each course lasts around 3 - 4 minutes. As well as the sex courses the website also includes links to other excellent sites providing sexual information.
Who is behind www.showmehow.co.uk?
The Foundation for Sexual Education - an international not-for-profit initiative, created to demystify the stigma surrounding sexual education and provide young adults with the information they need, in the appropriate format, to make informed choices in their sex lives.
What are the Foundation's aims?
The Foundation for Sexual Education believes sexual pleasure plays a crucial role in contributing to the establishment, development and stability of relationships.
Research2 shows that sexual pleasure contributes to happiness and well-being. Our aim is to help improve the quality of people's lives by enhancing their sexual health through education therefore positively impacting on their overall health and well-being.
What do you mean by 'the positive side of sex'?
Whilst the focus of most sex education is on negative sexual and reproductive health outcomes (STI's, HIV infection, unwanted pregnancy etc), showmehow.co.uk is different because it focuses on the pleasurable aspects of sex, stimulating openness and delivering information in an appropriate tone and contemporary format. We think that sexual education should be about more than disease and reproduction prevention – we think more emphasis should be placed in the pleasure and the positive aspects of sexual education
Whilst not its primary role, (there is no shortage of excellent advice and education in this area from Governmental agencies) we hope showmehow.co.uk content, especially the courses on safe sex, may also encourage discussions on issues such as contraception and disease prevention with their partners.
